Ghosh Yoga Workshop, October 20-22, 2023

We welcome Ghosh Yoga for an inspiring weekend of 5 workshops.

An excellent opportunity to strengthen the foundations of your yoga practice, by exploring asana practice, anatomy of postures and movement, as well as how the breath works, and how the mind is part of your yoga practice.

Friday, 5:00-7:30 p.m. | Bending the Spine 

Forward and backward bending postures are the gems of an asana practice. They create movement in the spine leading to better posture, circulation, digestion and greater energy. In this all levels class we will explore effective engagement of the abdominal and back muscles (making your postures feel easier!) and learn how the combination of the spinal movements balance the nervous system. You will learn how to adjust your postures based on your current mobility, and leave knowing how to get the most out of your practice. All levels, lecture and practice.

Saturday, 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Yoga Therapeutics: Back Pain & Stress Reduction

Therapeutic exercises are simple body movements to improve functional health, strength and range of motion.This workshop will focus on bringing stability and relief to the spine, especially the lower back. Also we will focus on calming the body, breath and mind, reducing stress and creating a restful state. Learn how to recognize and manage pain in your everyday life, and also how to calm yourself at bedtime or in stressful situations.

The workshop consists of a lecture, the opportunity to ask questions and a full practice. This workshop is suitable for all levels, including those brand new to yoga. Bring friends or family!

Saturday 2:00-4:00 p.m. | Intro to Yoga Philosophy 

Yoga began as a spiritual and philosophical system. The physical practices that we know today as yoga, are relatively new in yoga’s history. In this workshop we will explore the origins and philosophical roots of yoga including the first definition of yoga, and a handful of meanings from prominent traditional texts like the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. All levels. Lecture and discussion only. 

Sunday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. : The Power of Pranayama 

Learn the foundations of yogic pranayama (breath control) practice. We will begin with fundamentals of how to breathe and offer a handful of breathing exercises to build the right strength and focus. Learn how breathing affects the nervous system and how to control it. This can bring energy, relaxation or balance. We will teach pranayama exercises and practice them all together. All levels, lecture and practice.

Sunday, 2:00-4:30 p.m. | Be the Mind, Free the Mind

We all know that the mind is a vital part of yoga practice, but how do we use it most effectively? Should we be concentrating, spreading our awareness or striving to remove thought? In this workshop, we will the yogic states of the mind called the five modes of chitta, and discuss the various ways to use the mind and their respective benefits and drawbacks. Then we will practice postures, breathing and a short meditation using the knowledge and techniques. In just two and a half hours, you will develop profound awareness and concentration that can be applied to your yoga practice or any element of life.
